The second freeway shooting in two days occurred at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when a man was injured in the leg as numerous shots were fired into his car on a bridge over California 94.

Police said one bullet struck Charles R. Steel, 24, of San Diego in the right calf. He was treated at Villa View Community Hospital. His passenger was not injured.

Steel told police that he was northbound on Kelton Road over California 94 when a red Hyundai drove up along the left side of his vehicle and several shots were fired, three of which struck Steel’s vehicle. He was able to drive himself to the hospital, police said.

No arrests had been made and no description of the occupants of the Hyundai was available, police said. No motive for the shooting had been determined.

On Thursday afternoon, a woman reported to police that her car was hit twice by gunfire when a man in a blue Chevrolet van pulled alongside her on Interstate 805 near Murray Ridge Road and fired a handgun.

The woman, 25-year-old Cynthia Banks, was not injured, and police were still searching Saturday for the van and its driver.
