Sludge Pipe Breaks

About 8,000 gallons of sewage sludge spilled into the ocean off Point Loma late Thursday when the pipe that carries sludge to Fiesta Island in Mission Bay cracked.
The sludge spilled into a storm drain and then into the ocean, about 200 feet north of the Point Loma Sewage Treatment Plant.
County health officials, notified of the spill Friday, warned divers and fishermen to avoid the area for at least a week.
