5 Runs in 1st Inning Spur Hart to 10-2 Win in Colt World Series
The Hart baseball team, behind Jason Edwards’ three perfect innings and four runs batted in, defeated Maui, Hawaii, 10-2, in the second round of the Colt World Series at Loeb Stadium.
Edwards, the Times Pitcher of the Year as a Hart High junior this season, started and struck out six in three innings as Hart built a 7-0 lead highlighted by a five-run first inning. Keith Halcovich threw the final four innings for Hart.
“We didn’t worry about the perfect game too much. Everyone was telling me to go for it, but now I can pitch on Sunday,” said Edwards, who was 11-0 with a 1.28 earned-run average for the Indians last season.
Lance Migita and Darin Tsukashima walked to open the game for Hart. A double by Robbie Davis scored Migita and Edwards tripled home Tsukashima and Davis. Anthony Chessani walked and Chris Vasquez singled home Edwards. Chessani moved to third on a fly out and scored on an error.
Hart, which beat Hoosier North (Ind.), 8-3, in the first round, plays Lafayette on Sunday at 6 p.m. A win puts Hart in the championship game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
