Local News in Brief : Playa Vista Study Urged

Share

Los Angeles Councilwoman Ruth Galanter, a longtime foe of the $1-billion Playa Vista development proposed for near Marina del Rey, has asked the city to require a new environmental impact report on the project.

In a letter to the city Planning Department, Galanter cited concerns about air pollution, traffic, sewer capacity and overdevelopment in the area as reasons for a new environmental study. City planning officials have recommended that a supplemental report--a less comprehensive document--be prepared.

Galanter said the existing environmental impact report on the massive project--which calls for residential, office, hotel and retail development on 887 acres--was based on “inadequate and inaccurate information.”

A spokeswoman for Summa Corp., developers of the property, said Monday that the company wants “the best and most comprehensive” environmental review necessary. She said the city must decide if that means a new study or a supplemental report.
