Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Anaheim to Put in Bid to Host 1993 Super Bowl
Anaheim Stadium officials will make a third bid to host the Super Bowl, joining the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Pasadena Rose Bowl in competition for the 1993 game.
The City Council on Tuesday gave approval to bid for the game. The bid by the three sports arenas is a regional pitch to bring the game to Southern California. The idea is to offer National Football League officials a “menu” of practice locations, hotels and a game site.
The NFL is expected to award the 1993 championship game to a southern city this winter, according to Greg Smith, general manager of Anaheim Stadium.
Anaheim has made two unsuccessful bids for the Super Bowl since 1981.
