U.S. Women’s Basketball Team Routs Cuba Once Again, 105-72

Six players scored in double figures to lead the United States Olympic women’s basketball team to a 105-72 victory over Cuba Saturday.

The victory gave the U.S. team a sweep of the four-game series with the Cuban team. The U.S. team won the four contests by an average margin of 36 points.

Early in the first half, the U.S. team used an 11-0 run to grab a 17-6 lead. After Cuba narrowed the margin to 20-12, the U.S. team outscored the Cubans, 19-8, for a 39-20 lead with 5:27 remaining in the half.

The United States led at halftime, 52-31, and connected on 61% of its field goal attempts in the second half. The largest lead was in the final minute at 105-70.

Cindy Brown and Cynthia Cooper scored 14 points apiece to lead the United States. Bridgette Gordon added 12 points, followed by Suzie McConnell with 11 and Teresa Edwards and Jennifer Gillom with 10 each.

Leonor Borrell led Cuba with 19 points.
