Doctors will not know how badly a stroke paralyzed Art Rooney Sr.--a founder of the National Football League and owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers--until he can be taken off a ventilator, said a hospital spokeswoman.
Rooney, 87, remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh following a stroke that began Wednesday and ended Thursday, hospital spokeswoman Mary Donnelly said.
“His right side is paralyzed,” Donnelly said. “Doctors will not be sure how much of the impairment will be permanent until he is off the ventilator totally.”
