Jack Sher; Ex-Columnist, Screenwriter

Jack Sher, a one-time newspaper columnist and magazine fiction writer whose first book, “The Cold Companion” in 1949, brought him a screenwriting contract, died Tuesday.

He was 75 when he died of respiratory and heart problems at his Beverly Hills home.

Nominated for an Emmy award for his 1971-72 television play “Goodbye, Raggedy Ann,” Sher had more than a dozen writing, directing and producing credits in Hollywood.

Among them were “My Favorite Spy,” “Shane,” “Off Limits,” “The Kid From Left Field” (which won an Image award from the NAACP), “Kathy O’,” “The 3 Worlds of Gulliver,” “Paris Blues,” “Critic’s Choice” and “Slither.”

Once syndicated in 43 newspapers, Sher also wrote two sports books: “12 Sports Immortals” and “12 More Sports Immortals.”

Survivors include his wife, Moira, a daughter, a son and three grandchildren. Services will be private.
