Little League World Series : Hawaii Beats Texas, Takes On Taiwan in Final
Reid Numata drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single to key a five-run second inning as Pearl City, Hawaii, held on to defeat Spring, Tex., 5-4, Thursday and earn a place in Saturday’s final of the 42nd Little League World Series against Tai Chung, Taiwan.
Pearl City starter Chris Yoshimoto earned the win, lasting 4 innings while giving up 2 hits, striking out 3 and walking 1. Guy Yoshida finished the game for Pearl City.
Pitcher Fong-An Tsai scattered six hits and hit a three-run home run as Tai Chung rolled to a 16-1 win over Glace Bay, Canada, Thursday. Teams from Taiwan have won the series in the last two years and four times in the 1980s. Far East entries have won in 17 of the last 21 years.
Tsai struck out 12 and walked 2, giving up the Nova Scotia team’s only run in the fifth inning.
