Local News in Brief : Chippendales Gets Another Extension
- Share via
A judge has extended until Friday an order postponing Los Angeles Fire Department plans to close Chippendales, the West Los Angeles nightspot featuring male exotic dancers.
Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Lawrence Waddington on Monday gave the nightclub’s attorney, Kevin McLean, until Friday to present legal arguments on his claim that the city’s effort should be overturned because Chippendales is being discriminated against by the Fire Department. McLean maintains that the effort to close Chippendales is illegal because clubs with similar violation records--Chippendales has been cited 14 times since 1983--remain open.
Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Board of Fire Commissioners upheld the department’s decision to revoke Chippendales’ fire permit. But the club won the initial postponement until Monday’s hearing.
