Playa del Rey : Group Plans Protest March

Share

The Dump the Dump Coalition will march on Los Angeles Councilwoman Ruth Galanter’s Westchester office at 10 a.m. Saturday to protest a proposed compost-processing plant in Playa del Rey.

The march will start at the vacant lot between Bob’s Big Boy restaurant and Tokai Bank on Manchester Boulevard and will proceed to Galanter’s office at Lincoln and Manchester boulevards.

The coalition is opposed to the proposed plant because residents fear it would produce odors and noise and would reduce property values.

Galanter supports the concept of the plant as a way to reduce the demand on landfills. The proposed plant would separate recycleable materials, such as glass and metals, and mix organic refuse with animal manure to form a compost to be sold by the operator of the plant.
