Weekend TV : Children’s Programs to Be Unveiled; ‘Ghostbusters,’ ‘Ed Grimley’ on Tap

A lunch pail full of new shows for children starting this weekend will temporarily take their minds off returning to school.

NBC’s new Saturday lineup includes the debut of “The Misadventures of Ed Grimley,” a live action/animated series that finds Martin Short reprising his zany “Saturday Night Live” character of a few years back (10:30 a.m. today on Channel 4). New seasons of “Kissyfur,” “Gummi Bears,” “Smurfs,” “Alf” and “The Chipmunks” are also unveiled today.

ABC begins its new children’s schedule today with premiere episodes of “Beany & Cecil” at 7:30 a.m., “Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters” at 8:30 a.m. and “A Pup Named Scooby Doo” at 9:30 a.m.

“Kids Court,” a show that tries real cases before a jury of children, opens today at 6 p.m. on cable’s Nickelodeon channel.

And from Beverly Cleary’s children’s books comes “Ramona,” a 10-part series that chronicles the escapades of 8-year-old Ramona Quimby, premiering today at 6 p.m. on Channel 28.
