Local News in Brief : 125 Acres of Brush Burned in Forest
At least 125 acres of heavy brush were blackened Friday in a fire near Pyramid Lake in the Angeles National Forest, authorities said.
About 225 firefighters, aided by four water-dropping helicopters and four fire retardant-dropping air tankers, battled the blaze, which burned about 2 miles west of Interstate 5 and 2 miles northwest of the lake, U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman JoAnne Baldwin said.
No injuries were reported.
“This area is highly inaccessible and very steep,” Baldwin said, adding that hand crews, including a contingent of prison inmates, were dropped into the area by helicopter to fight the fire.
