Local News in Brief : Garbage Worker Killed by Truck After Falling
A Sylmar garbage worker was killed Tuesday when he was run over by the trash truck on which he had been riding, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Miguel Gutierrez, 28, was fatally injured at 8:20 a.m. while working in the 27600 block of Sycamore Creek Drive in Bouquet Canyon, Deputy Chris Wahla said.
Deputies said the victim, an employee of Atlas Transport, had been riding on a step attached to the front left fender of the truck when his foot slipped between the fender and front wheel. Deputies said he fell from the truck and was run over by its front wheel.
The death was ruled an accident by investigators. The name of the truck’s driver was not released.
