“USA Today: The Television Show” will begin airing an occasional series of animated “articles” written and designed by illustrator Gary Baseman tonight at 7 on Channel 2, KCBS-TV. The 90-second spots will use the misadventures of a suburban family to illustrate economic trends in America. The mini-cartoons are being animated by the Ink Tank, a New York commercial studio. Baseman’s work has appeared in Time, the New York Times Review of Books and the National Lampoon, as well as the Los Angeles Times.
