Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Chevy Chase 1st Phase Redevelopment Cheered
A joint venture of the city and private developers to renovate the former crime-ridden Chevy Chase neighborhood was celebrated by 250 people at a dedication Thursday morning.
Financed by $26 million in tax-exempt bonds, the rehabilitated neighborhood on the city’s north end will have 392 apartment units, a quarter of those reserved over the next 30 years for low- and medium-income renters.
Thursday’s crowd turned out to cheer the opening of the project’s first phase. This month 76 families are to move into new apartments.
The apartments, situated on a 20-acre tract bounded by the Riverside Freeway, Romneya Drive and Condor Street, will be called Park Vista. Final construction is scheduled for completion by November, 1989.
Fast-food magnate Carl Karcher and developer Terrance Barry built Park Vista with financing assistance from the city.
