A Cal State Fullerton gymnast was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a fellow student-gymnast during an argument at a party, police said.

Steve L. Ciccarelli, 22, of Fullerton was listed in stable condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange on Wednesday evening, after surgery for an abdominal stab wound, Fullerton Police Sgt. Jeff Roop said.

Eli Rodriguez, 22, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and was booked into Fullerton Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, Roop said.

The stabbing occurred shortly after midnight while the two men were attending a party at an apartment in the 2400 block of East Nutwood Avenue.

“We don’t know what the argument was about,” Roop said. “Both of them got involved in a fistfight at the apartment. There were five or six other persons there and there was drinking going on. The suspect then grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Ciccarelli pretty seriously.”

Roop said Ciccarelli’s wound was not considered life-threatening.
