A man found viciously beaten to death in his Palm Springs home was identified as Hans Rudolf Hungerduhler, 65, long-time maitre d’ of the Tre Sette, a fashionable French restaurant in the desert city. The victim, whose body was found Monday night, had been so severely beaten that identification was difficult. Held on suspicion of murder was Cole Bienek, 18, an acquaintance of Hungerduhler. Bienek was arrested the same night after a routine traffic stop in the San Diego area, where police said he was driving Hungerduhler’s car. Bail was set at $250,000. Hungerduhler was identified after restaurant employees notified police that he had failed to appear for work.
