Officer Slain in Gang Shooting

On Sept. 3, while protecting and serving the community he loved, Officer Pratt was brutally murdered, another victim of gang violence. The residents of South-Central Los Angeles immediately responded to this tragedy by offering innumerable expressions of grief and concern. Implicit in these poignant and unfeigned condolences is a renewed determination to rid our society of its pernicious elements.
Our remembrance of Dan’s humanity, tenacity, pride and commitment to public service will never abate. And, as underscored by the community’s response to this tragedy, the Police Department and residents of South-Central Los Angeles will forever work in concert to solve the problem of gang violence.
Dan’s death shall not have been in vain.
