A dispute over payment for an order of tacos left one man dead and another jailed on suspicion of murder, authorities said Friday.
Santa Ana police said the incident began when Jose Luis Cerrato Perez, 22, refused to pay for some tacos he ordered from a food truck vendor in the 400 block of North Lacy Street about 10 p.m. Thursday.
The vendor, identified as Enrique Cabezaf Arceo, drew a handgun and shot Perez once in the chest, Santa Ana Police Lt. Bob Chavez said.
Perez was pronounced dead on arrival at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. Arceo ran from the scene but was arrested when he returned to his home on East Santa Ana Boulevard, Chavez said. A gun believed used in the shooting was recovered from a garbage dumpster, he added.
Arceo was booked at County Jail, on suspicion of murder. He was held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
