Alemany Strikes Quickly, Buries St. Genevieve, 34-7

After running just three plays from scrimmage Friday night against visiting St. Genevieve High, Alemany had built a 14-point lead and tailback Tyler Robuck had gained 107 yards--in 2 carries.
Two plays into the second half, Alemany quarterback Joey Rosselli lofted a 57-yard touchdown bomb to Scott Goldsmith to give the Indians a 21-point lead.
And three games into the season, after easily polishing off St. Genevieve, 34-7, Alemany is undefeated with a tenacious defense that has surrendered only 17 points.
“I keep saying this every week,” Alemany first-year Coach Pat Blackburn said. “But my coaching staff has done a great job. These guys prepare the players really well.
“But,” Blackburn cautioned, “the party’s over. Next week we’ll see how good we really are.”
Blackburn was referring to the Indians’ upcoming schedule, which includes successive games against Palmdale, Canyon, Crespi and Loyola.
“But we’ll be all right if we play hard,” Robuck said, “We have such a balanced attack. When you think we’re going to run, we pass, and when you think we’re going to pass, we run.”
Robuck, who entered the game as the Valley’s leading rusher, seems certain to retain that status after gaining 197 yards in 13 carries. He also caught 4 passes for 53 yards and survived a savage hit from St. Genevieve linebacker Carlos Gonzalez that left Robuck on his back for several minutes late in the third quarter.
Rosselli passed for 257 yards, completing 13 of 21 for 2 touchdowns. Bill Markowitz caught 6 passes, including a 37-yard bomb to complete Alemany’s scoring in the fourth quarter.
Alemany scored less than two minutes into the game on a 1-yard plunge by fullback Mark Dannemiller, who rushed for 11 yards in 2 carries. Linebacker Frank Winton set up the play by intercepting Leo Cortez’s first pass.
After a St. Genevieve drive that stalled at the Indians’ 6-yard-line, Robuck burst off tackle for a 94-yard touchdown run on Alemany’s third play from scrimmage.
Dannemiller added a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to increase Alemany’s lead to 21-0.
St Genevieve (1-2) moved the ball reasonably well early in the game. Cortez, who finished with 16 completions in 28 attempts for 228 yards, hit Marc Colon with 4 passes for 80 yards in the first half. But Alemany halted four St. Genevieve drives in Indian territory.
