Bill Glasson, who almost didn’t enter the tournament because his wife is expecting their first child, won the $500,000 B.C. Open golf tournament by two shots Sunday at Endicott, N.Y.

Glasson, 28, of San Diego didn’t commit to playing until last weekend’s deadline.

“The doctor told us the baby definitely wouldn’t come until next week so I committed to play,” Glasson said. “But my wife just changed my plane reservations from Monday to today, so I guess I’d better get home.”

Glasson shot a 2-under-par 69 on the 6,966-yard En-Joie Golf Club course to finish at 16-under 268. The victory was his first since the 1985 Kemper Open and only his second in 5 years on the tour. The $90,000 winner’s check boosted his 1988 winnings to $289,289--more than his 1986 and 1987 totals combined.

Bruce Lietzke shot a 64 and former B.C. Open winner Wayne Levi had a 67 to tie for second place at 270, worth $44,000 apiece. PGA champion Jeff Sluman’s 65 tied him with another previous B.C. champion, Don Pooley, at 271.

Defending champion Joey Sindelar shot a 72 and faded to 274 but his $12,500 check moved him into the money lead at $705,515. That put him $10,800 ahead of Chip Beck, who missed the cut.

Rosie Jones posted a steady, even-par 72 to win the $300,000 LPGA Santa Barbara Open at La Purisima Golf Course at Lompoc.

Jones, of Albuquerque, N.M., carded 16 pars, 1 bogey and a closing birdie to finish at 4-under-par 212.

First-round leader Sherri Turner, the LPGA’s leading money-winner, was alone in fourth at even-par 218 after closing with a 76.

Dave Hill sank an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole to hold off Bruce Crampton and win the $300,000 Paine Webber Invitational seniors golf tournament by 1 stroke at Charlotte, N.C.

Hill finished with a 70 for a 54-hole total of 206, 10 under par for 3 rounds over the 6,826-yard Quail Hollow Country Club course. Crampton shot a 66 for 207.

Arnold Palmer, two shots off Hill’s pace after 36 holes, birdied three of the first five holes to grab a share of the lead but played par golf over the last 11 holes and settled for a 70 that left him at 208.

Spain’s Jose-Maria Olazabal shot a 4-under-par 68 to win the $486,000 German Masters golf tournament by two strokes at Stuttgart, West Germany.
