Man Suspected in Ex-Wife’s Killing Released
A Redondo Beach engineer arrested a week ago on suspicion of murdering his former wife was released from jail this week after the district attorney’s office found it lacked sufficient evidence to file charges, said Torrance Police Sgt. Jack McDonald.
William Bradford, 55, was freed Tuesday from the Torrance jail where he had been held without bail.
His former wife, Barbara Joan Bradford, was found Sept. 16 in her south Torrance home, dead of two gunshot wounds.
The day before, police said, William Bradford had learned that $40,000 of his half of the $380,000 proceeds from the sale of the family home would be paid to his wife as alimony and child support in a divorce settlement.
Bradford’s lawyer, John Meyers, said his client did not kill his ex-wife.
Meyers said the settlement payment was not sufficient motive for murder and that the police have no other evidence against his client.
Sgt. McDonald said that Bradford remains a suspect.
