Southland reggae bands playing for the sake of hurricane victims in Jamaica, the island that exported reggae music to the world, raised about $3,500 Wednesday night in a benefit at Club Postnuclear in Laguna Beach, according to club owner Max Nee. The 12-performer lineup drew about 250 people to the club. The proceeds will be distributed through the American Red Cross to islanders hard-hit by the recent Hurricane Gilbert. Additionally, donations of clothing will be distributed by Stones Jamaican Bakery in Los Angeles, which is acting as a collection point for food, clothing, blankets and other non-cash items.

The revival of “Camelot” scheduled to open Nov. 15 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center has been postponed because star Richard Harris has been advised by his doctors not to undertake a national tour, Center officials said Friday. Harris, who has been touring periodically in “Camelot” since 1981, was to embark on a 30-city American tour, including the Nov. 15-20 run in Orange County that was to be the beginning of the Center’s 1988-89 Broadway Series. Center officials said they hope to reschedule the show as soon as Harris’ health permits.

The Orange County Performing Arts Center has announced new changes in the Moscow Classical Ballet programs for next week, presumably due to the recent cancellations by three guest dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet.

“Romeo and Juliet” will be performed as originally scheduled, on Friday at 8 p.m., Oct. 8 at 2 and 8 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.
