Local News in Brief : 3 Injured in Accident; Road Closed 12 Hours
Henry Mayo Drive near Val Verde was reopened to traffic Tuesday morning nearly 12 hours after an accident involving three tractor-trailer trucks injured three men and littered the roadway with paper bags and manure, the California Highway Patrol reported.
All lanes of the roadway, also known as California 126, were closed near Indian Dunes Park between 7 p.m. Monday and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Officer Ralph Elvira.
The accident occurred when a westbound truck driven by Robert Madison, 46, of Burnly spilled a load of paper bags while attempting to round a curve, Elvira said. Pallets containing the bags hit the cab of an eastbound rig driven by Martin Llamas, 20, of Bakersfield, which overturned, spilling a load of manure.
Madison’s truck went on to hit an eastbound rig carrying produce and driven by Joseph Gallo, 22, of La Mesa. Madison’s truck then turned over, Elvira said.
Madison was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. Llamas and Gallo were taken to Henry Mayo Memorial Hospital in Valencia. All three were in serious condition Tuesday night.
