Board Bans Alcohol at School-Related Events
The Glendale school board voted Tuesday to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol at all school-related events, broadening a long-held district policy forbidding alcohol on school property.
Under the new policy, alcohol is also forbidden at off-campus activities where students are present. Until now, alcohol had been served to adults at some Booster Club events and meetings held off school grounds, district spokesman Vic Pallos said.
The board voted unanimously to approve the new policy, which was one of a number of recommendations made by a district committee on substance abuse prevention. In a report presented to the board earlier this year, the committee said parents and teachers should set an example to students by limiting alcohol consumption.
