Paramount : School Chief’s Job Extended
The Paramount Unified School District Board of Education has given Supt. Richard B. Caldwell a 3-year extension on his 4-year contract. The board voted 4 to 1, with Craig Olson dissenting, to extend Caldwell’s contract to June, 1992. The contract was to end June 30, 1989.
Caldwell’s annual salary is $79,140. He receives raises along with teachers and administrators, who are in contract negotiations with the district.
Caldwell, 61, has been at the 12,000-student district for 36 years. He rose through the ranks, serving as an industrial arts instructor, chairman of the industrial arts department, counselor, vice principal and principal. He became superintendent 10 years ago.
Caldwell has degrees from UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Long Beach and Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He is married to Paramount Councilwoman Esther Caldwell. They have two children and four grandchildren.
