Medfly Spraying On Tonight
Aerial spraying to eradicate Mediterranean fruit flies from several Westside neighborhoods, postponed because of last night’s heavy fog, has been rescheduled for 8 o’clock tonight, state agriculture officials said.
The postponement gave about 100,000 residents another day to protect their cars and expensive outdoor statuary against thousands of gallons of a sticky mixture containing malathion that will be used to kill the crop-destroying insects. California Department of Food and Agriculture spokeswoman Gera Curry urged people within the 35-square-mile spray area to cover their cars or to wash them with soap and water as soon as possible after the spraying.
