Norman Cousins, internationally famous author and lecturer on world affairs, will be the featured speaker Oct. 24 at the end of a three-day United Nations Celebration at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.
Entitled “An Evening with Norman Cousins,” the event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by a 7:30 p.m. dinner at which Cousins will speak. Cousins, for 35 years the editor of Saturday Review magazine, now is an adjunct professor at UCLA’s School of Medicine.
The dinner and reception are open to the public, and tickets cost $30. Reservations may be made by calling (714) 675-1724.
U.N. Celebration activities will begin in Orange County this year with workshops at 10 a.m. Oct. 22 at Chapman College, followed by a luncheon with David Hinkley of Amnesty International as the speaker. On Oct. 23, a U.N. Day Family Picnic is scheduled at William R. Mason Regional Park in Irvine. Both of those events also are open to the public.
