Chip Ferguson threw a pair of scoring passes, and No. 6 Florida State scored 21 fourth-quarter points Saturday to beat Division I-AA Georgia Southern, 28-10.

A homecoming crowd of 59,109 at Doak Campbell Stadium sat in stunned silence as Georgia Southern took a 10-7 lead early in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard touchdown run by Gary Miller.

But Florida State scored 3 touchdowns in the next 7 minutes.

Ferguson put the Seminoles ahead for good with a 16-yard scoring pass to Ron Lewis with 8:47 to play.

Georgia Southern’s poor punt later gave the Seminoles possession at the Eagles’ 47-yard line. Four plays later, Dayne Williams ran 23 yards for a touchdown and the Seminoles led, 21-10.

Freshman Chris Parker scored from the 1 with 1:13 left to cap the comeback. That came after another poor punt gave the Seminoles the ball at its 37.

The victory was the fifth straight for Florida State (5-1) since a season-opening loss at Miami.

Georgia Southern, ranked seventh in Division I-AA, fell to 3-2 with its second consecutive loss.

Ferguson completed 16 of 24 passes for 247 yards. He also had 2 intercepted.
