No. 1 UCLA to Meet USC in Volleyball

The UCLA women’s volleyball team, ranked first in the country, will play No. 11 USC tonight at 7:30 at the USC North Campus Gym.

UCLA, 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the Pacific 10 Conference, has a strong middle game led by blockers Daiva Tomkus and Elaine Youngs. The Bruins have defeated eight teams ranked in the top 20, and have won nine matches in the minimum three games. UCLA has held the top ranking for 4 weeks, and is one of three unbeaten teams in the country, along with New Mexico and William & Mary.

USC, 12-4 and 4-2, is led by outside hitters Nancy Hillman and Lonise Norfleet, and setter Christine Brigman. The Trojans are in fourth place in the Pac-10.

UCLA has a 30-28 lead in the series but the Trojans beat the Bruins in 2-of-3 matches last season.
