Maui & Sons, KLSX Notch Wins in Team Cup Volleyball at Forum

On the opening night of the third season of Great Western Team Cup Volleyball, defending champion Maui & Sons defeated the KLSX Classic Spikers, 30-27, 19-30, 11-6, and the Labatt’s Blues downed Team Toyota, 26-30, 30-22, 11-9, Tuesday night before a Forum crowd of 1,397.
Maui & Sons were led by U.S. Olympian Troy Tanner and Bob Ctvrtlik with 12 kills and 9 kills, respectively. KLSX was led by fellow Olympic team member Eric Sato with 11 kills, and Olympic MVP Karch Kiraly contributed 7 kills, 5 blocks and 7 digs.
At halftime, the 10 members of the Olympic team who are playing in the 2-week Great Western Team Cup Volleyball season were honored.
In the evening’s second match, Labatt’s Blues rallied to beat Toyota behind the strong play of Olympic team member Jon Root, who led the team with 18 kills and 4 blocks.
