Local News in Brief : Building Moratorium Approved

The Torrance City Council has unanimously approved a four-month moratorium on development in a downtown residential area. Several council members said before the vote Tuesday that they expect complaints from developers who want to build in that area.

The action Tuesday will extend a previously approved 45-day moratorium for the 18-block area bounded by Portola Avenue, Sierra Street, Maricopa Place, Amapola Avenue, Cota Street and Dominguez Avenue.

The four-month moratorium, which will end February 11, 1989, was requested so that the Planning Department could report on what effects development will have on traffic, parking and infrastructure in the area. The department will also look at the possibility of enacting special zoning plans.
