Longshot Hail a Cab overcame a 15-length deficit to win the $264,000 Grade I Spinster Stakes by 3 lengths over Willa on the Move at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.
Winning Colors, the Kentucky Derby winner, finished fourth in the field of five fillies and mares.
Hail a Cab ran the 1 1/8 miles on a fast track in 1 minute 51 seconds. She paid $51.80 to win.
Winning Colors’ jockey, Gary Stevens, said the Wayne Lukas-trained filly simply lost her steam.
“She warmed up fine, seemed 100%. But when we got to the three-eighths pole, she had nothing left,” Stevens said.
