Although her recent appearance in Costa-Gavras’ “Betrayed” was as a G-woman, Debra Winger has been working hard recently for Democratic candidate Michael Dukakis, making campaign appearances and poking fun at reporters. Winger, who supported Jesse Jackson during the primaries, had fun Friday on the Dukakis campaign plane, quipping to Boston Globe political reporter Thomas Oliphant, “How come you’re so funny in person and so boring in your stories?” When the candidate finally slouched toward the press area, Winger reportedly told him, “If you don’t talk to them, they’re going to make me the sacrificial virgin.” Winger added quickly, “That would be stretching the truth a little bit.” Unfortunately for his handlers, Dukakis apparently didn’t even crack a smile at her remark.
