Murder Suspect Freed in Jail Identity Mix-Up

HAUPPAUGE, N. Y. —
Police hunted over the weekend for a Long Island murder suspect who was released by mistake after a court appearance in which he was confused with a traffic violator of the same name.
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department on Friday released Jose Torres Jr., 18, who was charged with second-degree murder, instead of the traffic defendant, 27-year-old Jose A. Torres.
