A woman walking in a crosswalk on her way to church Sunday was struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident and died later at a local hospital, Santa Ana Police said.

The woman, whose name was being withheld until relatives could be notified, was walking in a crosswalk in the 1300 block of South Main Street about 6:50 p.m. on her way to Mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Church when she was hit, Santa Ana Police Sgt. John Dittus said.

The car, which contained three or four men, continued south, dragging the woman about 200 feet before making a U-turn and driving north at a high rate of speed, Dittus said.
