San Diego Gas & Electric and SCEcorp, the parent company of Southern California Edison, have unexpectedly pulled out of a Monday state Senate hearing in San Diego that will review mergers in the utility industry, State Sen. Herschel Rosenthal (D-Los Angeles) said. Rosenthal, who was “outraged” by the last-minute withdrawal, is considering a legislative subpoena that would force the two utilities to attend. Securities and Exchange Commission regulations prohibit SDG&E; and SCE from discussing proposed mergers, utility spokesmen said.
