Grant Heads Off Cuts in Counseling for Elderly

Share

The Glendale Family Service Assn., a family counseling center, this month received a grant that will forestall cuts in its services to the elderly.

The $15,000 grant from the San Fernando Valley-based Borchard Foundation will fund a counseling program for the elderly who are dealing with such problems as being widowed or caring for someone suffering Alzheimer’s disease. Director Rod Lackey said about 42 people participate in the program at the Montrose center each month.

Started in 1981, the program was scheduled to end in June, 1989, when United Way funding is scheduled to end. The grant will cover the salary of the social worker who runs the outpatient program.
