A new location that would be “100% suitable for a parole office” has been identified by a consulting firm, City Manager Kevin Murphy announced at a City Council meeting this week.
But city officials declined to reveal the location of the proposed site, saying that such a disclosure may hurt chances of a successful move.
The controversial parole office, located at 1723 W. Garvey Ave. near Alhambra’s border with Monterey Park, opened in May. Police in both cities say crime is up in neighborhoods near the parole office and nearby residents want the office moved.
Murphy said that the site, one of 22 evaluated by the realty firm, still must be approved by the state General Services Administration.
Although the location of the potential site will not be revealed immediately, Murphy said Alhambra is not passing the unpopular parole office on to an unsuspecting city.
“They are going to have a notice period so they can decide whether it’s appropriate for their city,” he said.
