Goblins and ghoulies go Hollywood in the Anaheim Youth Poster Art exhibit on display at Anaheim Plaza through Monday. Sponsored by the Anaheim Art Assn. as part of the city’s 65th annual Halloween Festival, the show features more than 300 artworks by kids in kindergarten through the sixth grade.
Told to peg their posters to a Hollywood/Halloween theme, the kids responded with everything from ghoulish portraits of Freddy Krueger (from the “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies) to Mickey and Minnie Mouse portraits to monsters and other nasties decked out in celebrity shades and glitter.
Sixth-grader Kipp Olsen earned the grand prize for his vivid caricature of a cheery-looking witch and trick-or-treaters. Other prize winners included April Haines’ People magazine-style celebrity collage and a highly detailed pencil drawing of Lucifer and friends by sixth-grader Nghia Nguyen. The winning artists get to ride in the city Halloween parade Saturday.
