Police said today they have no suspects and had found no signs of forced entry into the oceanfront mansion where Cornelius Vanderbilt III, a descendant of the 19th-Century rail baron, was found stabbed to death.

Vanderbilt, 72, had been dead a short time when his body was discovered in a first-floor hall Thursday morning by James Brunton, 37, who had shared Vanderbilt’s home on Staten Island for five years, Police Lt. William Quinn said. Quinn said Brunton had been asleep upstairs and came down to investigate noises.
