Actress Brigitte Nielsen, the fiancee of New York Jets defensive end Mark Gastineau, does not have cancer but did have a condition that, if left untreated, might have developed into cancer, according to test results.
Nielsen told reporters earlier this month that she had cancer of the uterus. Gastineau abruptly announced his retirement when he learned of her condition, saying he wanted to see Nielsen through her ordeal.
Dr. Rochelle Sanders, an Eagar, Ariz., physician who performed a biopsy Wednesday, said Nielsen had dysplasia, treated during cryosurgery. Dysplasia may or may not be a warning sign for cancer, according to the University of Arizona’s Cancer Center in Tucson.
