Three youths were injured Monday night in a schoolyard brawl in Vista, in which groups of black and Latino teen-agers apparently squared off against each other, Sheriff’s Department officials said.

The fight took place about midnight at Bobier Elementary School, 220 W. Bobier Drive, said Sgt. Manny Castillo. During the fight, Steven Lesure, 18, was stabbed in the body, Castillo said. He was found at a nearby liquor store by sheriff’s deputies and paramedics, who took him to Tri-City Medical Center. Lesure was later transferred to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he was listed in stable condition Tuesday night.

Deputies from the Vista sheriff’s station eventually learned that Lesure’s injuries were caused by the melee at the schoolyard. When they arrived there, they found a Latino teen-ager who had been badly beaten. The youth, who was not identified because of his age, was also taken to Tri-City Medical Center for treatment of facial injuries, Castillo said.

While attempting to locate witnesses to the fight, detectives went to Lesure’s home in the 500 block of Minah Place in Vista and found another stabbing victim, Castillo said. William Harrison of Los Angeles, 18, had been stabbed in the arm but told the deputies he would seek medical treatment on his own.
