The Board of Supervisors approved a $120,000 settlement Tuesday to a woman who was seriously injured when a county tractor ran her over as she sunbathed at Redondo Beach.
Catherine Metcalf, who was 24 and a Glendale resident at the time of the April 30, 1986, accident, sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis and ribs, when a county worker driving a skip loader drove over her.
The employee was using the skip loader, a tractor equipped with a front-loading bucket, to pull lifeguard stands into place for the summer beach season. He did not see the sunbathing woman, according to a summary of the case written by a deputy county counsel.
