Greg Clark threw 17 yards to Billy Ryan on the first play of the fourth quarter Saturday to help lead Menlo College a 27-24 nonconference victory over Azusa Pacific at Azusa.

Azusa Pacific (5-2), which probably lost any chance for a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics playoff berth, took the lead when Mario Riveros returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown. The Cougars converted 3 turnovers into 21 points but lost a scoring chance when Kenny Snyder fumbled into the end zone with 9:29 remaining, and Menlo (7-2) recovered.

Portland State 49, Cal Lutheran 0--Quarterback Chris Crawford threw for 2 touchdowns and completed 15 of 22 passes for 271 yards, and Kevin Johnson rushed for 2 touchdowns to lead the Vikings in a Western Football Conference game at Thousand Oaks.

Portland State (7-2-1, 6-0 in the conference) led, 39-0, at halftime. The Kingsmen (2-7, 0-5) have lost seven straight games.

CS Sacramento 40, CS Northridge 20--Don Hair rushed for 88 yards and touchdowns of 1 and 18 yards to lead the Hornets (7-2, 3-2) past the Matadors in a WFC game at Northridge.

Bryan Kellen scored for Northridge (6-4, 1-4) on a 71-yard punt return and a 20-yard pass from Rob Huffman.

UC Santa Barbara 13, U. San Diego 10--Mike Curtius’ second touchdown pass of the game, a 9-yarder to Sean King with 2:11 left, won it for the Gauchos (5-4) at San Diego. San Diego is 4-4.

Occidental 23, Redlands 13--Tony Werbelow hit 28 of 38 passes for 316 yards, and Rob Leinbach caught 9 passes for 118 yards for the Tigers (6-2, 6-0) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. Redlands is 3-4.

Cal Poly SLO 23, Southern Utah 10--Rod Riley and Todd Henderson ran for second-half touchdowns to lift the Mustangs to a WFC victory over the Thunderbirds at San Luis Obispo.

Cal Poly is 5-3-1, 3-2. Southern Utah is 4-6, 2-3.

Claremont-Mudd 24, Whittier 6--Reed Pangborn ran for touchdowns of 46 and 7 yards to lead the Stags (1-7) past the Poets (3-5) at Whittier.
