Jiri Hrdina scored 4 goals to lead the Calgary Flames to a 6-3 victory over the Hartford Whalers Monday night.

The Flames, who are undefeated (8-0-2) this season at the Saddledome, are the only National Hockey League team that has not lost at home. They moved 3 points ahead of the second-place Kings in the Smythe Division.

Hrdina, a rookie from Czechoslovakia who joined the Flames after last February’s Winter Olympics, scored 1 goal in the first period, 2 in the second and 1 in the third. He has 10 goals this season.

Hrdina is the second NHL rookie to score 4 goals in a game this season. Tony Granato of the New York Rangers did it against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 30.

Joe Mullen added 2 goals for Calgary. Kevin Dineen, Scott Young and Dave Tippett scored for Hartford.

Goals by Young and Tippett brought the Whalers within 4-3 in the second period, but 15 seconds after Tippett’s goal, Hrdina scored his third.

St. Louis 3, Montreal 3--Mike McPhee scored with 13 seconds left in regulation to lift the Canadiens into a tie at Montreal.

The Blues, trailing, 2-0, in the second period, rallied for 3 goals in a span of 4:36, capped by Gino Cavallini’s goal at 18:15. That lead held up until the Canadiens, with goaltender Patrick Roy lifted for an extra attacker, tied it on McPhee’s fourth goal of the season.

Goals by Bobby Smith and Mike Keane had given Montreal its 2-0 lead.
