Arbitration Offered to Sax, Marshall

Share

The Dodgers offered arbitration to second baseman Steve Sax and right fielder Mike Marshall Monday, a process that both players said they would reject when contract negotiations with the club ended Friday night.

Marshall and Sax, both free agents eligible to accept bids from other clubs, have until Dec. 19 to agree to arbitration with the Dodgers.

If either agrees to arbitration, he will be considered under contract for 1989 and an arbitrator will establish the salary by choosing either a figure submitted by the club or a figure submitted by the player. The player would also be eligible for free agency again after the 1989 season.

Attorney Bob Teaff, who along with Jerry Kapstein represents both players, said Monday that they have been traveling and that he is unaware of any changes of heart they may have about arbitration.
