Kevin Bradshaw, a 6-foot 6-inch forward on the All-Navy basketball team, has signed a letter of intent to play for U.S. International in the 1989-90 season, USIU Coach Gary Zarecky said Wednesday.

Bradshaw joined the Navy after graduating from Buchholz High in Gainesville, Fla., where he averaged 30.3 points a game as a senior and was chosen Florida’s player of the year. As a member of the All-Navy team, Bradshaw played with David Robinson and averaged 18 points a game.

“We’re very excited to have a player of this caliber,” Zarecky said. “We had to work hard. (The Navy team) travels around the country, and a lot of people see them play.”

Bradshaw is on the USS McKee and will finish his service in time to play next season.

As expected, Courtie Miller of Torrey Pines, the section player of the year last season, signed a letter of intent with San Diego State. Miller, the leading scorer on a Falcon team that earned a berth to the Southern California Regionals, announced his intentions at a press conference Oct. 10.

Miller, a 6-7 forward, averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds a game last year and helped Torrey Pines to the state’s top ranking at one point in the season.

Terrence Hamilton, a 6-6 senior forward from Patrick Henry, verbally committed to SDSU Oct. 11 but did not sign Wednesday. Hamilton was unavailable for comment; his coach, Fritz Ziegenfuss, said he was unaware of any change of plans and expects Hamilton to sign with SDSU.

Three other top players in San Diego County are still undecided. Kevin Flanagan, a 6-10 forward for Torrey Pines, is considering a number of schools including SDSU and University of San Diego.

Two Lincoln players, 6-3 guard Joe Temple and 6-8 forward Aaron Wilhite, are not expected to sign during the early period.

No county girls’ high school players are expected to sign early, and no local colleges reported women’s signings.
