A 19-year-old San Diego man was arrested early Friday after he robbed an El Cajon doughnut shop, fled in a stolen vehicle and crashed into an abandoned car, police said.

Anthunane Simmone Horton was found by El Cajon police hiding behind a rabbit cage in the back yard of a house on Murray Ridge Road. He was booked into the County Jail in Vista on suspicion of possessing stolen property, taking a vehicle unlawfully, threatening people with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, a jail clerk said.

Horton is being held on $2,000 bail and will be arraigned on Tuesday in El Cajon, the clerk said.

At about 1 a.m., two men entered the Yum Yum Donut Shop at 1710 E. Main St. One of them brandished a handgun while the other grabbed the entire cash register, containing an undetermined amount of money, El Cajon police spokeswoman Tammy Hall said.

They then jumped into a stolen car and sped westbound on Interstate 8, Hall said. Police, including about 20 from San Diego, pursued the vehicle until it crashed.

Police said they chased the suspects on foot and found Horton behind the rabbit cage after they heard the cage rattle. The other suspect is still being sought.

Hall said the cash register was recovered but the gun was not.
